I am quite concerned with the dialogue I heard about recording the meetings.
It seems that some board members think recording the meetings should be contingent on how the recording is used. I think it was Kupillas who asked, "what is we know it isn't pleasant?"
I think the only thing they should be concerned about it its lawfulness. If the recordings (which in all honesty should be carried and posted by the district given the wonderful technology DVSD has) are used to be critical of the board, or used to be in support of the board, or even just offered as a public service (like your podcast) - that is all irrelevant.
So when the solicitor says something like if it is "used in a matter that is inappropriate we'll have to control it" - what does he mean by inappropriate?
Modern technology can bring many more people into the decision-making process, inform them of what is going on, and allow them to hold their elected officials accountable. It should be embraced, not feared, by the school board.
I would think by "inappropriate" Weinstein would mean something libelous or otherwise illegal. Like if someone rearranged the clips to make the board members say something else and claimed the clips were true.
It was John Kupillas that was concerned, and evoked "you tube".
It is useful to note that the solicitor indicated that it was not useful to ask why the recording was being made, and that the Board should assume that all recordings will be used lawfully.
I think that Ryan seems to have interpreted what was stated by the solicitor correctly. At least that is the sense that I had while I was listening in person.
I hope to ask the board to consider posting their (hopefully better) version of an audio file and even video.
I am glad to see that these files are of use to those that can not attend.
So who's the secret operative?
Get over yourself. If the district/board wanted a podcast of the meetings, they would do it. Get a life. I would think a college kid has better things to do than dwell on Delaware Valley. Maybe time to get some friends?

Podcasting the meetings (which took about as much effort as it did for you to type up your anonymous little nasty-gram) is clearly not directly for the benefit of the district/board; it is for the benefit of the community members who cannot make the meetings. Though, the district and board do benefit since they don't need to do it themselves; I'm taking care of a simple piece of communication for them to keep the entire community on the same page: quickly, and for free.
Ultimately, we're all working toward the same goal: improved education and student life at our school, yourself included if you attend the board meetings. So I don't understand why you direct negative comments to me over a constructive initiative like making recordings of school board meetings publicly available.
