Board requests elevating school police to detain and issue summonses

Inside the Dispatch this week, there is a short story about how the board voted in June in favor of authorizing the school police officers to be elevated one level so they can detain people and issue summonses.

The vote was added to the June 19 agenda after discussion at the preceding safety committee meeting about a man who was caught stealing a computer projector from one of the schools and was detained by the school police officer on duty.

The district is working with the court to obtain the authority to upgrade the officers.

The board was not in favor of elevating the officers to the third level, which while it would give them control over charges would also require the purchase of costly equipment, software and vehicles in addition to installing an evidence locker for contraband on school premises.

Can we please get uniforms and metal detectors already?

Seriously This is becoming ridiculous. I felt safer without the cops around. The presence of cops in school makes me afraid for two reasons:
1. it makes me think that there is something very very VERY dangerous going on in our school that even I don't know about. And I'm pretty I've heard of most of the sh*t that goes on in this school.
2. They're walking around with guns. Not tasters. Guns. Big, black, bullet shooting guns. I will not be surprised when someone (probably a school cop) is shot with his own gun by some dumbass student.
