Fisher tells of his past, seeks an end to Goldsack's petty politics

To the Editor:

Delaware Valley School Board President Bob Goldsack wants desperately to deflect the discussion of his lack of leadership these past two years. He has gone so far as to attack me personally regarding issues that have no impact on the DV School District. To satisfy his perverse obsession with my personal life I offer these final thoughts regarding my life to him.

My mother was an unmarried pregnant teenager when she found herself thrown out of high-school and her church. It was the 1950’s and not everybody was experiencing economic boom and Elvis Presley. Mom, God rest her soul, always regretted not graduating High School and became a firm believer in the value of education even though her opportunity was cut short.

My father married my mother but teenage marriages are difficult. I have been told his tendency to use brute force and bully techniques doomed the marriage. I have not seen or heard from him in nearly five decades as he abandoned his family one night and never returned.

I was blessed that my mother later married a man who instilled in me two words. Hard work. He worked multiple jobs every day to make ends meet to provide for his instant family. He worked lifting garbage cans at the county sanitation dept. Times were tough so was he. I call him "Dad" , he calls me "Son". The son of an Italian immigrant he taught me old world values. He got me my first full-time job when I was fourteen. Of course it was in an Italian restaurant. Wednesdays he made pasta and we all listened to Pavarotti. "P and P night" , a tradition I carried over to my life as a father. He has terminal cancer now . I love him dearly.

I grew up and went to a public high school. There I met my best friend and wife.I worked my way through high school and college. I owned my first business when I was nineteen working late into the night cleaning professional offices. Doctors, attorney’s, CPA’s. Etc... I cleaned everything from the floors to the toilets. I also worked at the Nassau Coliseum by night and can yell "Beer Here" above the roar of the crowd to this day. During the day I attended and later graduated from Hofstra University, Zarb School of Business, which is about a stones throw away from the arena. I respect the hard working American man and woman.

I love being an independent business man. I have no guarantees of income or profits. I believe in the free market and that free enterprise is the economic engine to lasting prosperity. I have had great years in business and horrible years. I feel the pain of the single mother trying to raise children in hard times. I feel the anguish of hard working fathers whose biggest assets are losing value and are falling behind on their mortgage and real estate taxes. These are parents who know that through hard work and good education their children will see the American dream become reality as I have.

I am running for DV School Board against the most powerful politician in the county, Bob Goldsack. Bob, and his serfs in his TU crowd, have been against every major curricular and co-curricular activity from new classroom technology to football and track and field over the years. I need the help of all good citizens in our school district, parents, grandparents, business people. I ask for their vote to restore balance on our school board.
