These two letters appeared in this week's Pike County Dispatch.
I appreciated reading Kim Pabon's letter (below), which discusses the cronyism that was taking place on the school board until today, when the board lost its power to fill John Wladar's Sept. 18 vacancy because the board had not acted within the 30 days required by policy.
Sadly, the Dispatch selectively chose to disregard a letter I wrote in response to Kupillas, in addition to at least one other response letter written by a member of the Pike County Youth Coalition.
After hearing last night about board member Diane French's letter (below), I contacted her to request a personal conversation with her privately. She has not yet responded to my request, nor has fellow board member John Kupillas, who wrote a similarly "stunningly negative" letter last week and whom I have tried to contact multiple times. I would be grateful if the elected public officials who represent me and our community would respond and take care of their personal problems with me in a "mature" manner.

I agree with the fact that a teenager fresh out of high school would not be a got choice for the school board. Yes, you have a lot to say, but to much in my opinion. But if this is what you really want, which you so claim, wait a few more years so people can take you more seriously. Because right now im just seeing this as a way for you to express your boredom/frustration or you really do see it as a joke. And Diane French does not need to tell you anything about her personal problems okay? You are still a teenager and some over 25 year old person is not going to discuss something so private with a teen who thinks he is 30 but has the actions of a 13 year old. And they are right, the position is not a summer joke, but you are sure as heck treating it that way. I thought all the drama goes away when you leave high school, hmmm looks like you need to go back sweetie because you still have quite a bit left in you.
to anonymous below, it seems by the way you are writing that you are well above the age of twenty-five and obviously are biased towards the school boards thinking. if you aren't older than 25 then you obviously do not know the teenager whom you are referring to. you tell him to wait a few more years so people will take him seriously but in that lies the problem. It is because people like you don't take "teenagers" seriously that so many people are rebellious and disrespectful. By law everyone 18 years old and over has reached the age of majority and the only thing we can't do legally is drink. if the law states that we are old enough to vote, drive a car, and be tried as an adult, i fell that you should start treating us like an adult and take us seriously. you claim that he's acting like a 13 year old while your comment is full of indirect jabs and rude remarks. you obviously have way more growing up to do than he does because if he were to write a response he would find out both sides of the story and then make a judgment instead of jumping to conclusions like a hormonal little schoolgirl. oh dont ever us the term "sweetie" in that manner, it makes you seem like a bitch.
Let's please continue to keep the conversation civil. We cannot control what others say, but we can control what we say ourselves and show the community that we are indeed mature and respectful young people.

Is Mrs. French really the one who should be insulted by my pointing out the facts in the Dispatch?
I'm the one who is insulted that the school board, which serves the school district I attended for 13 years, would violate multiple policies in an attempt by the majority to appoint a political supporter to an open position.
I'm the one who is insulted by a board member would publicly attack young people and their capacity to think rationally and make decisions.
All residents of this community are the ones who should be insulted at the reckless actions of the majority of the school board these past few weeks that landed them today before the Court of Common Please that will now make the appointment unilaterally.
Now is not the time for Mrs. French to throw up more smoke and mirrors and list the rather phony "accomplishments" of the Taxpayers United, but time for her and the TU to be accountable for their actions. Is that really too much to ask?
