It seems like a really good use of the automatic dialing system, and I think the message is important, both in its content and for helping bridge the gap between the school (and particularly, the district administrators) and the families they serve.

I did not hear this message on my phone. (I have kids in the HS, DVMS, and SES)
Personally, I would rather hear from the school through email than by a recorded voice.
If a recorded voice is desired, a web posting or enclosed link in an email would do fine for me!
But a phone message is better than another note mailed home.
I shudder to think of the paper, envelopes and postage that we waste to send all of those non-legal, but important messages home. I can opt out of paper for many notifications (insurance, bills, financial, IRA, bank statements). Perhaps the organization that espouses the "creative use of technology" may make better use of its website and email in the future.
I agree that improved e-mail and web presence would be a good thing for the school district. I think the phone message has a nice personal touch, though the district would benefit from better online communication.
