The poll on the right side of this page has been updated to reflect that, so make sure you vote now!
Other than myself, I personally support Jack Fisher, William Greenlaw or Sue Schor to take the position. Fisher and Schor have been tested by the electorate. Fisher has served on previous boards. Schor was the next highest vote getter in 2007. She was defeated by Sue Casey, Diane French, John Kupillas, John Wladar and John Wroblewski.
Denise Fey, another candidate for the spot, also served on the board previously.
Check out RB for DV's ongoing coverage of Wladar's vacancy.
The Pike County Youth Coalition blog also has mention of the vacancy.

why not someone with a child in the special education system? wouldn't that make the most sense, i meean, we don't need soccer moms.
soccer moms?
Check your facts... none of these applicants seem to fit that bit, and most of them are well qualified for the position.
However, I do believe Mary Gordon has some connection to the Special Education System.
maybe you should check your facts.
i'm pretty sure sue schor has some connection to the football team.
Sue Schor has had children on the football team, but I'm pretty sure she has no connection to soccer.
I would consider it a benefit that she is a parent who has been closely involved with her sons' co-curricular activities.
We arent in Europe soccer is considered soccer here not football. Look at a map!
Everyone has a bias, welcome to America...
Please feel free to get the facts of the things I stand for!!!! Send me an email with your name and telephone number and I would be very happy to answer any questions you may have. Thanks

I do have children with IEP's and I am a single dad. I guess that qualifies me according to the above statement. I feel that there were other worthy candidates also. Sue, Mary, and Jack would also make fine choices.
In the spirit of fact checking, you can contact me at wegreenlaw@gmail.com if you have any questions.
On the topic of IEPs, I personally had one when I attended DV. Does that pull any weight?
"On the topic of IEPs, I personally had one when I attended DV. Does that pull any weight?"
It does not matter to me, but it apparently was a concern of the anonymous poster that doesn't feel that we need "soccer moms". Personally, I don't think it carries any particular weight.
I was responding to the first comment on this post. My point may have been too subtle. There are countless ways to exclude or include candidates. What makes the "most sense"?
-"someone with a child in the special education system?"
-the person with the most prior board experience?
-the person with the most experience as an educator?
-the person with the most first hand student experience at DV?
-someone that is a steadfast supporter of co-curriculars?
-the most philanthropic?
In my opinion, the best candidate should be able to work with each memeber of the the existing board, but bring diversity to the Board. By diversity I mean different viewpoints. This may be geographical (DDES vs. SES vs. DVES, or DD vs. DD), professional experience, personal educational experience, volunteer experience, and the usual: gender, race, economic status, etc.
The best candidate should not be a pushover either (see another post and comments).
IMO, a balanced candidate is the best for this particular opening. The electorate can figure out who should serve for a longer term on their own.
Most of the candidates were great. Even though none of them were hockey moms. But choosing a candidate that has never even been to a school board meeting is a control issue wouldn't you say. Why hasn't the board put Pam Lutfy in charge of the Special Education Committee? Instead they have left this committee empty for many months. Pam has great knowledge and experience in Special Education and probably would have taken it on and did a wonderful job!!!!!!
Sue,
I agree.
I can think of only five people that apparently believe that selecting someone that has shown no interest in attending meetings and has no children in the district are important criteria. I am not sure of who the five are as of yet, but I have it narrowed down to eight possibilities.
I remember attending special education roundtables when Pam and Jack were both on the special education committee. They were very responsive to the parents.
That committee can only improve over its performance this year. I remain hopeful that it can be a great committee once again.
Heh Ryan,
I'm new to this form of communication but I must say I appreciate your energy and dedication to providing another information source for Pike County. My hat off to you and all the other media sites you so graciously provided for our reference. Someday you will be leading a school district or even the country and you will do a fine job. Stay ethical and aim for the the most distant star. We need more young leaders like you. Take your time though and enjoy life before the responsibilities of adulthood pile up.
Just my two cents.....I have been attending S.B meetings for years. I truly think I've seen it all.But then wham! Another surprise. It never ends. It's all about who you know.Sorry I can not believe that Sue Casey,Ed,John, even Deb would vote in another tax payer united person.I believe in keeping a close eye on spending.Would like to see the above people mentioned join me in a class room for most of the day to observe what goes on behind the scenes and actually speak up on things that need to be changed.I will truly believe that those that sit on the SB have our kids on their priority list.
This is just a bunch of BS as always.Everything is wonderful in Candi Land isn't it.Keep your kids in sports and they will turn out wonderful! Yeh o.k They wont be able to do math or read but man they will be able run & throw a ball. And forget about the Sp. Ed. kids.Inclusion does not happen as it should at DV.And until changes happen it never will.So sad.
I know I am getting off track here but Mary Gordon gets it people.Shes met with angry parents (why are they angry)& talks about what can be done and can not be done. Pam was taken off Sp. Ed as per Goldsack with no say in it.Thats how he wants it.So now there is no one.Great.I just feel the love, don't you?! They all pat themselves on the back after every meeting and to me it's just a big horse & pony show.I hear circus music in the distance at the meetings.Don't you?
