Pa. school district plagued with STDs - One confirmed case of HIV
To my knowledge, the two reporters did not attend the safety committee or regular board meeting in June to get facts firsthand, nor did most of the people they interviewed. The Record and other distanced big media have a tendency to shallowly glorified the negativity in our community, which is one they don't regularly cover. Unfortunately, sensationalized fear-mongering and pointing fingers at the school district isn't going to solve this problem.
FOX News picked up the story, too. Update: so did WNEP.
Update again: The Pocono Record has the same story as the Record.

Pike County Courier: HIV concerns dominate new DV health issues
This story is actually a bit more balanced, and Dave Hulse was actually at the meeting to report on it. The anonymous comments at the bottom of the story are ridiculous, like usual.
Pike County Youth Coalition: Statement on Teen Pregnancy Spike
This blog post, which was distributed to the local press, slightly bothers me, especially since it is referred to in an official capacity in the press. None of the members of this coalition were present at the meetings, yet the organization is taking a somewhat nervy authoritative stance on the issue.
